7 Reasons Why You Should Participate in NaNoWriMo

Thursday, October 22, 2015 4 Comments A+ a-

If you're one of those people who are still considering if they should join NaNoWriMo this November, welp, this is for you!

I think it's pretty impossible that you still have no idea what NaNoWriMo is considering the number of times I've mentioned it here on my blog. But here's an infographic by InstaScribe to give you the gist of this wonderful, monkey-barrels of fun event:

I've been participating in NaNoWriMo since 2010 (3 years on the Young Writer's Program, a year on the full site). This is going to be my 5th NaNoWriMo and I'm not going to stop participating anytime soon. Here are 7 reasons why you should too!

I'm making these up as I go, so if I start to stop making sense, please bear with me. The previous sentence already sounds weird.

1. An entire month of writing, writing, writing!

If you're like me who absolutely loves writing and hates it at the same time, NaNoWriMo's definitely going to intensify those feelings you have about writing. It's a chance to ignore that inner editor inside you head and just write. It's the complete sanity abandon. Drown in your stories.

3. SNAZZY PAPERBACK COPIES OF YOUR NOVEL IF YOU WIN! (Courtesy of CreateSpace)

Okay, confession, I'm not entirely sure if they're going to do this this year, but hey there's a big chance they will! Mainly because they do it every year. Imagine caressing your wonderful book in the flesh. With your name on the cover. Beautiful.

4. Nothing makes a writer more productive than a deadline!

Always had that wonderful idea that you'd make into a story someday? Well, say no more to someday writers, and say hi to actually putting that idea into paper (or Word document, whichever).

 5. Meet wonderful people!

I met a lot of wonderful writers all over the world because of NaNo. People my age, people who watch the same tv shows (or binge watch rather), people who procrastinate as much as I do, basically amazing, incredible writer people (who will definitely understand why you're asking how to stab someone without killing them)!

6. "It's for my novel..."

Speaking of writer friends, through NaNoWriMo forums, you can ask anyone any information for your novel. No one will judge you, trust me. (Photos courtesy of The Best of NaNoWriMo)

7. It's more fun than barrels of monkeys!

I know the whole idea of NaNo is daunting at first, but rest assured, it is fun! Reaching the 50,000 word goal, completing your novel, putting ideas on paper, these are just mini goals. The main goal? Have fun and write! Sure, you can't exactly put life aside and dedicate a whole month for just writing, but it would still be fun to try (HA. HA.)

The planning is tedious and the writing can sometimes be annoying, but that's all part of the road trip to NaNo. It's a beginning of a looong writing journey. It's a bumpy ride, so suit up and put your seatbelts on!

I really hope that made sense. I tried.

P.S.
The coding and overall format of this entire post drove me nuts. It's so messy and uneasy to the eyes, for that I apologize :(

Also, did anyone else notice that I apparently can't count and have no number 2 on the list? *sigh*

Hey,
I found your blog on the Internet. Oh, I'm soo funny (not) of Course I found this page there, I mean Blogs can be written in the Internet where else?
I think this writing novel is a really big Chance for those who write their novel until the end, for example me: I tried a lot to write a novel but it hasn't worked yet.
Love, Lea

True! It's actually kind of daunting, a novel in 30 days, but it's insanely fun (this is basically me summing up all the crap I wrote on this post lol). Are you trying NaNo this year? :D

Haha I was wondering about that. Found you from that thread on the PinoyWrimo Facebook page. It's so awesome that you've been participating for years! Keep on writing! :)
