"The Santa Talk"

Saturday, December 19, 2015 2 Comments A+ a-

I was running out of blog post ideas for 12POC a few days back, so being the very wise human being that I am claim to be, I googled some ideas. I came across one that I just couldn't forget and it's number 32 of this list: How to have "the Santa talk" with your children (Father Christmas to some).

It made me wonder (such me, much curious), how would I tell my children about Santa's.. existence? Would I even tell them? To my future kids (I scared myself while typing this), if you're reading this, friendly reminder that I was only almost 17 when I wrote this. And that this is really, really weird for me.
My child,
My offspring,
Human being,

Whatever I may end up naming you, hi! (Although, I am seriously hoping I don't name you Hurricane) You must be pretty dear to me, seeing that you literally came from inside me. I'll assume that by the time I'm supposed to be reading this out to you, you are old enough to know that Santa is real. To hell with whatever anyone else tells you.

Listen, a lot of people are going to tell you that that old man with white beard and iconic red suit isn't real. Oh, but he is. He's living in each an everyone of us. Creepy, huh?

"Andrea, I'm not pregnant with Santa Claus."

"Don't call me Andrea. I'm mom!"

"Whatever, mom."

okay yeah wow here's to hoping my child won't actually be as evil as I was when I was younger.

See, the whole point of Santa (or at least this is how I see it) is to make children people happy; he gives gifts and eats your cookies and spreads joy and love. That should be everyone's responsibility, and not just during Christmas time.

I watched Love Actually yesterday, a film that I will probably force let you watch along with Elf and Home Alone, and in the beginning a guy narrates that whenever he feels like the world is full of sucky people, he thinks of the people in Heathrow airport. Which is a pretty nice thing to do when the world just lets you down by exhibiting the amount of asshole-ness there is in the majority of the human population.

How people feel about each other should reflect that scene we see in Heathrow airport. We shouldn't need distance just to miss someone and tell them that we love them.

Did that make sense to you?

I hope it did.

I also hope that I did an awesome job on raising you.

Or I hope your dad has.

Merry Christmas, youngling.

Wow that was weird.
