Book Hauls + Book Lockets

Thursday, January 30, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

I know, I know, this is an out of schedule post since it’s Thursday, but I wanted to share some great news!

First in line in the series of good news, after the long wait, The Fault in Our Stars Trailer is finally released! Check it out if you still haven’t by clicking the amazing fan art by Mandi Kempton!  If you have already watched it, share your thoughts in the comments below.

Also, during our English class a few hours ago, our English teacher announced our final class project for this school year; a class Yearbook! I was extremely excited since the project would require the use of two of my most favorite things in the world; writing and editing. Our teacher showed us a few example yearbooks made by the previous batches and they were amazing. I am really excited to be doing this with Krypton (my section).

And yes, this is my class. This is the first time, I think, that I posted a photo with my actual face in it. Hahahaha. :))

Speaking of writing, I’m working on more stories this year and I’m pretty happy about how all of the stories are going. These are the tentative covers I made for each (Note: None of the stories below are posted anywhere, but I hope I will put them up on Wattpad soon).

I am so sorry the covers I made are on my other laptop and I haven't transferred them to Dropbox yet. So for now, no pictures. :D Sorryyyy.

Oh and I’m doing a book haul this February! I don’t have an exact date yet, but I’ve been saving since December and have been craving more new books ever since 2014 rolled in. I will definitely be blogging about all the books I will buy in the near future. :)

And last, but definitely not the least, I found this cute little online shop called Tuesdays and Fridays that sells beautiful accessories. No, not just simple bracelets, necklaces, and rings, but book-inspired accessories! I made a quick collage of the photos I gathered from their Facebook Page you can visit by clicking on it. I’m planning to buy a lot from this store pretty soon since I’m still waiting for my new All Time Low, Pierce the Veil, and Sleeping with Sirens ballers to be delivered.

Note: I’m not really sure if the store is available to different countries other than the Philippines, you can inquire if you want. But, even if they are not selling worldwide, it’s still nice to look around the amazing trinkets around the shop.

Alright, that’s pretty much everything. I hope you guys are as excited as I am for what is to come these next fe months! See you soon! :)

#HappyHoodDay

Sunday, January 26, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

I feel really bad about missing Calum’s birthday and I feel even worse about not being able to post last week. So, I’m going to post a thing or two today, and then queue the other ones due this week. Thanks to my aunt who gingerly pushed me to do this. :)

So, anyway, as usual, I want to dedicate this update first to Calum Thomas Hood of 5 Seconds of Summer. Belated Happy 18th Birthday, Cal! And even though I’ve only been a fan for about a month or so, I have grown to love you and the boys for your musical abilities, quirky attitudes, and awesome hair. ;D

I can’t wait for your album and that music video coming up in a few weeks! I love you so much and may you have more birthdays to come! :D Again, this photo is taken from 5SOS PH Street Team, so credits to the awesome graphic artists.

Also, Calum posted this on Facebook a few hours ago!

For those of you who don’t know, 5 Seconds of Summer is a band from Australia consisting of Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, and Michael Clifford. They are currently working on their very first album and have already released 2 EPs; Unplugged and Somewhere New. :)) You might hear a song or two on this week’s Monday Mixtape! :D

Finally, Friday

Saturday, January 25, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

Finally, Friday, this marks the end of our 3rd Quarterly examinations, thankfully. And since I’ve been studying my arse off, I’m giving myself a mega break today by watching All Time Low: Straight to DVD and eating pancakes drowned in syrupy good stuff.

P.S.
I joined Teenage Blogger Central’s blog directory a few weeks ago. I visit this place for more blogs about bands, food, and all that good stuff. So, go check them out! I put a link of them on the sidebar, just click on that and you’ll be redirected to them people. Isn’t it amazing! No? Well.

A Birthday Greeting For A British Sweetheart

Sunday, January 12, 2014 1 Comments A+ a-

Heya! I have a lot to post today once again to make up for the past week, but I want to dedicate a blog post for another idol of mine who is celebrating his birthday today. Yepp, it’s none other than 1/5 of the biggest boy band in the planet, Zayn Malik! Again, here is a photo I took from One Direction Philippines street team. So, once again, credits to them and their amazing officers who endlessly support my fangirling needs.

I’ve been a fan of One Direction since March 2012. I’ve learned a lot since then. One of which is to never lower yourself to others. Directioners receive a lot of hate from people and mostly a lot of other fandoms. Of course it’s inevitable that we fight back. But, I’ve learned that that’s not always the choice. In fact, it is never the choice. People are entitled to their own opinions and we do not control what they are supposed to like or think of others.

One Direction consists of 5 normal lads who are living their dreams. A lot of people support them, but a fair number of people don’t. This, we cannot change. They are most definitely not perfect, no matter what you say, they have their flaws and insecurities, despite being huge popstars.

It’s all about a simple mentality; Think about the love, Forget about the hate. They can’t please everyone, and we’re no different.

Watch out for the next posts! J

Fan Fiction Pet Peeves

Saturday, January 11, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

Lately I’ve been spending my free time reading a lot of Fan Fiction. For those of you who don’t know, Fan Fiction are stories created by fans of a certain fandom, thus the name, mainly to have their share on how a book would end, or how two characters should’ve been, and all that. It’s anything under the sun, really. But, after all this reading, I noticed how many things annoy me when I read these things. So, I present to you, Andrea’s Fan Fiction Pet Peeves! (Yaaaaay!)

Note: This is just a silly little list I want to share with you guys and it is not meant to offend anyone. I also wrote a lot of fan fiction before and I’m pretty sure I did one or two of these things back then. ;)

1.    Summaries

Like almost everyone I know, before I read stories, I look at the summaries first. It’s basically how the authors give the readers a peek of what they would be reading. I know a good number of stories that have these summaries that makes the reader want to read more, and then there’s some that’s just plainly too long or too short, but does not contain much excitement and interest. This is a bit fine with me, because people have different ways with words, so I don’t mind long or short summaries.

What I do mind, is the people who tend to put “I suck at summaries, but the story is good!!1! I swear!!! READ!!” It puts me off when I see these kind of things on summaries. If you can’t write a decent summary for your story, then how could we expect you to write a decent, or moreover, good story?

2.    Mixed Up Tenses

I don’t really mind what tense a story is in, but I do read a lot of which are in the past tense. These kind of things depend on the writer whether past or present may their tense be. Many of my buddies at some online forums say that writing in present tense gives more action and definition to what is happening, rather than in past tense wherein you’re narrating what has happened. But, writing in present tense is a bit harder. Like I said, it all depends on the writer.

What I hate about this though is how some writers tend to mix up the tenses. It’s confusing and not to mention blinding! Please, please stick to the tenses. If it’s past tense, it’s past. If it’s present tense, it’s present. It stays the same.

3.    IS YOUR CAPS LOCK BROKEN??!

I don’t think I’ve ever written a sentence like the one above. Whenever one of my characters scream something, the capitalization is still the same, and the only difference is that I put an exclamation point at the end. I don’t really understand how people can stand reading sentence by sentence of Caps Locked conversations. I get that the writer may want to project the anger in the conversation more, but I really don’t find the need to do this. Usually, when I want to put emphasis on a word, I italicize it.

“You just don’t get it, do you?” She asks me angrily.

“You just don’t GET it, do you?”

“YOU JUST DON’T GET IT DO YOU?”

I don’t mind the first two, but the third one?
Maybe it’s just me. Haha.
J

4.    Short Chapters

I’m the kind of reader that patiently (Haha) waits for an author to update when the story I’m reading is still a work in progress. I fully understand, of course, that people do have a life other than the one they have in online writing sites. I was once a writer of one on-going stories too, and I loved how my readers wait for my next update patiently. So, basically, I don’t mind slow updates.

What bugs me, is the short chapters.
I get that that’s the only thing the author managed to write in between his schedules and all, but if it’s a slow update, it’s kind of disheartening for the readers who wait days, weeks, even months! I’m not exactly against short chapters, but I really love it when some authors posts a short chapter, but also posts a long one the next week, just to make up for it.
I’m not against filler chapters. But they kind of are a bit frustrating when you’ve been waiting for weeks and weeks for an update and then when one is given to you, it’s just a filler.

5.    Paragraphs

I’m going to keep this short because this probably annoys me most; Stories with no paragraphs.

Yes, those exist. And to add to my growing frustration, the story is actually really good, but the writer is, I don’t know, too lazy or too busy or too cool for paragraphs, apparently. It hurts readers’ eyes and is just plainly frustrating. L

6.    Author’s Notes

Now, before you say anything, hear me out, okay? I’m definitely not against Author’s Notes at the beginning or the end of the story. I actually enjoy reading them sometimes, because I get to hear from the author. The thing that annoys me about these, are the really long author’s notes that end up smack in the middle of a story or sometimes everywhere in a story. A/N’s, for me, are supposed to be short notes that the author may have forgotten to add or usually some kind of thank you for the readers. Not a part of a story that’s longer than the chapters.

7.    Covers

I don’t judge a book by its cover, but we can’t deny that a really good cover would attract more people, compared to a photo from Google topped with a random font with a neon green font color. I know, I know, not all are great at editing, and I swear I’m not one too. But, I take effort in making my covers or I ask people to make it for me and in return I give them credit and dedicate a chapter from the story to them.

Covers reflect what the story holds, so a good cover won’t hurt. I actually love looking at covers. It gives me inspirations on making my own. But, of course, I know a good number of stories that are great, but the covers, not so much. This is a minor thing, rather than a pet peeve actually. I just really fall in love with the covers sometimes. Hahahaha.

::::::::

Alright, That seems to be the end of it! This idea actually came from FanFiction(.net) forums wherein a person started a thread sharing his Fan Fiction pet peeves and then a lot of people shared theirs too. So, it’s your turn! J I tag everyone who is reading this write now to also create their own Fan Fiction Pet Peeves list and share them! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you again soon!

An Aussie Idol Tribute

Saturday, January 11, 2014 0 Comments A+ a-

Heya! It’s Saturday and I’m planning to post a LOT today. But, first, let me dedicate a post for my idol, the most amazing Aussie of them all; Cody Robert Greenwood Simpson! He turns 17 today and I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since I first joined his fandom. I took this little piece of wonderful artwork from Cody Simpson Philippines Street Team, so credits to them and their amazing officers.

Cody’s going on an International Tour soon, and hopefully he’ll be visiting the Philippines! I’m definitely saving for that. Also, did you know that Cody was the first verified account that followed me? Well, he is! You have no idea how I felt and reacted when I found out he followed me. I could have exploded, really.

Alright, so that’s it for this blog post. Watch out for the next ones shortly! J

Catching Up

Thursday, January 09, 2014 2 Comments A+ a-

So much for blogging on a regular basis, I’m really sorry for neglecting the place. I swear my teachers are trying to kill us these past few days. Anyways, I’m going to be posting the updates that I missed when the weekend comes. For now, I just want to show you the video I passed for that contest last week, which unfortunately, I did not win. You can view my Stop Motion/Time Lapse video here. Also, I’m still working on the blog’s design and currently creating a header (is that what it’s called?). So, hopefully the place won’t look so empty after a week or two.

We went to a local bookstore last weekend, but I wouldn’t call it a book haul since the only thing I bought was this really cheap activity book about the Naked Brothers Band. Wait, let me explain. I used to love this band when I was, like, nine years old, and I’ve always wanted some kind of merchandise of the band. And I found one on a stack of books on sale, it was really cheap, so I bought it.

I don’t exactly have the money yet, so I don’t think I’ll be able to go on a book haul this weekend. Perhaps next week I will, though. Also, watch out for the next blog post for the (really late) Monday Mixtape! J

So yeah, see you next weekend!

New Blog on the Block!

Wednesday, January 01, 2014 2 Comments A+ a-

Before anything else, I want to greet everyone a Happy New Year! Time flies by so fast, don’t you agree? It seems like 2013 was just yesterday [ironically it really is]. Anyways, since January is the month for new beginnings, I have decided to start my very own blog! Now, what will be the content of the blog, you ask? Well, anything under the sky, I guess. I’ve been told by a lot (mostly relatives) of people hoe keeping a blog would be fun and it would help me practice, not only my writing skills, but also time management, patience, and the lot.

I really would like to regularly keep a schedule in updating, but seeing that it’s close to impossible for me to be able to update daily, I set up all the alarms on my phone (I’m serious) to alert me every Monday, Friday, and the weekends to write about how my week went and such. Hopefully I can stick to that schedule. Fingers crossed.

Now, about how the blog looks, I’m currently taking up online lessons on graphic designing and I’m also going through my old textbooks on HTML to be able to give the place a better look. I also applied for a graphic artist/video editor spot at a certain street team for this certain band, so I kinda really have to take up graphic designing right now.

Lastly, I want to apologize for grammatical errors you might spot on my blog entries since English isn’t my mother tongue. It would really be helpful if you kindly point out the mistakes you might find, so that I won’t repeat them the next time, yes?

Okay, that’s about it, I guess. Thanks for taking time to read this. I’m probably talking to no one but myself, but whatever. Let’s cheers to the start of something new! J
See you on Friday, mmkay? :D
