Andrea Continues to Try to Review: Anna and the French Kiss (Chic Lit Week: Day 2)

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 2 Comments A+ a-

I HAVE CONQUERED LAZINESS! Okay, no, not really. I'm probably going to end up writing this review part by part. Like, a paragraph today, a paragraph tomorrow, so on and so forth. Anywaaay, as promised, Day 2 of Chic Lit Week is Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins!

As per usual, a summary from Goodreads:

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Andrea Tries to Review: Eleanor & Park (Chic Lit Week: Day 1)

Sunday, April 26, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

I guess I should have explained the whole "Chic Lit Week" idea on a separate post before writing this one, but, alas, I am very lazy. Anyway, I wanted to take a break from dystopian novels and sci-fi in general, so I took it upon myself to choose 7 chic lit (or at least I sort them as under chic lit) novels to finish. I'm not really expecting to finish all in just one week, but the whole metaphor kinda fit. The 7 books represent a week. The first book I picked up is Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

Here's a summary from Goodreads:
Two misfits.
One extraordinary love.

Eleanor
... Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough...Eleanor.

Park... He knows she'll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There's a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises...Park.

Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.

First, I am truly sorry for posting this 2 months late! A very humongous thank you to Neri from My Life in a Tab for nominating me!

Truly, Madly, Deeply: A Reaction to Zayn's Exit

Truly, madly, deeply
I am foolishly, completely falling
And somehow you kicked all my walls in
So baby say you'll always keep me truly, madly, crazy, deeply in love with you

Warning: This is a very emotional post concerning a certain boy band. If you don't like them or think that this is completely pathetic (e.g. my family), I suggest you stop reading and do something else. If not, then continue. Thank you.

Also, I highly suggest you listen to Truly, Madly, Deepy by One Direction while you read this.

Obligatory (Re-)Introduction Post!

Thursday, April 23, 2015 4 Comments A+ a-

Guess who found a black box at home and decided to waste white ink on it?

Hi! I'm aliiiive! Not that I was ever dead, but.. anyway, I am literally so frustrated on how this blog went. I started with so much excitement and overflowing ideas and yet, yesterday I was contemplating whether to delete it or just make it invisible (private is a more appropriate word, but invisible sounds better). But my brain kicked in and screamed, NAY! We shall not get rid of this blog nor keep it out from the eyes of the public. And so here I am. With the blog still up and fueled with new ideas and excitement.

As much as I wanted to get a super clean start, I didn't want all my previous posts to just *poof* be deleted. So, here I am with a semi-clean start! I found the need for a re-introduction post because I want to start again and I guess this is the best way possible. I also re-named the blog, as you may or may not have noticed.

It's Lumos! because the letters LAMP are literally my initials and lamps produce light. Lumos is the spell used in Harry Potter to produce light (three claps for creativity, word play, and coincidences). And the exclamation point is to show how enthusiastic and excited (and redundant) I am about the whole blog!

I'm not yet sure if I'm going to stick to the blog address, but we'll see. If my OCD side kicks in and I spaz about the difference in my blog name and blog address/url, I'll probably change it. But for the mean time, I'm sticking with sempiternal-reader.blogspot.com (no matter how extremely pretentious it sounds).

Alright, let us begin the (re-) introductions.

First and foremost, nothing has changed, I still suck at introductions. But I try.

I am Andrea Skylark (obviously not my real last name, but it clicks and I like how it sounds and I used to have a crush on Chip Skylark from Fairly Odd Parents). I just turned 16 a few weeks ago. I'm from the tropical country, Philippines. And it is very hot here (no exaggeration). I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My favorite color is green and blue and bluegreen. I love Harry Potter with a passion. I obsess over a LOT of things (again, no exaggeration). And I like stuffed animals and cartoons even though people think I seriously shouldn't.

Lumos! is where I get to write things, post them, and let other people read it. I try not to over-share my life. I try.

The "A" in LAMP,
Andrea

P.S.
Ali, if you're reading this I'm really sorry I couldn't do your Soundtrack of My Life Tag, I already did one just recently and I don't think a lot changed since then. But thank you for tagging me! =D ((also I don't know why I didn't just reply to your comment instead of putting it here.. but yeah))

Also, if you're not Ali, go on over to Ali's blog: http://aliologies.blogspot.com/ because it's awesome and I love it and I love you. Okay bye.
